About the faculty
The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences offers undergraduate
and postgraduate coursework and research programs in medicine, dental
science, physiotherapy, nursing, behavioural science (psychology), population
health, rural health and the life sciences.
There are seven schools: Medicine,
Behavioural Science, Dental Science, Physiotherapy, Nursing,
Population Health and Rural Health.
It is one of Australia's leading biomedical research faculties
and together with its research partners attracts more national
peer-reviewed medical research funding than any other medical
and health sciences faculty in the country.
It is one of the university's largest faculties in terms of:
- management of financial resources - the 2006 operating budget is approximately
$80 million and income from other sources (including research
grants, trust funds and bequests) is around $130
million;
- employment of academic and general staff - the 2006
complement was around 1544 full-time equivalent
staff (approximately 441 teaching and research staff, 583 research only and over and 520 professional staff);
- teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students - the student
teaching load in 2006 was 5845 equivalent full-time student
units (including 1,544 higher degree).
